“Anton Fig puts some percussion on some tracks for the new Europe album… then Joe Bonamassa popped in to the studio and played a little slide guitar on a Europe song (at the request of the band!).  Joey and the lads will be thrilled!” (Kevin Shirley).

As you may have already seen. Kevin has had a visit from Joe Bonamassa and Anton Fig in the studio. This is something we really wanted to happen. Great stuff! /Europe

Work is going great today. More superior guitar solos from mr Norum, and a very cool intro that George Lucas would sell his mother to get!!! Photo: The boys diggin’ John’s last guitar solo! IAN HAUGLAND – THE OFFICIAL PAGE

Working on guitar solos and backing vocals today, John is really burning away today! See that guitar? It’s not really a guitar, it’s actually a part of his body ;) IAN HAUGLAND – THE OFFICIAL PAGE

Today we’re doing overdubs. John did some very cool slide stuff with his old Fender Telecaster and I played some weird percussion stuff… Shakin’some jars with pebbles ‘n’ rattle some boxes with trash, just playing around basically! The Soul brothas Mic and Joey working on different vocal harmonies. It’s turning out real cool! IAN HAUGLAND – THE OFFICIAL PAGE

Yesterday we recorded a beautiful, powerful and emotional song. I wept like a child thru the whole session. Kevin even had to stop the recording several times just to come in to me in the studio to comfort me and sing a soothing lullaby ;)

I think this will be one of our strongest songs ever…! IAN HAUGLAND – THE OFFICIAL PAGE

October 15, 2011
Yesterday we wrote a new song in the studio, it grew out of a really cool riff that John Norum had and then Joey came up with a great chorus. We played it over a couple of times before we pressed the “rec button”. It felt great, just like they used to record back in the 70′s. IAN HAUGLAND – THE OFFICIAL PAGE

Here’s Johnny boy checking out his new baritone Gibson Les Paul guitar that he used on the song, a mean muthafucka sound!

Yesterday we finished off another magnificent track, dynamic, rockin’ and with a kick ass melody… Another classic Europe song is born! Another day and another great track on tape… Oh sorry, I meant on the hard drive ;) some wicked drumming on this song I have to say!  IAN HAUGLAND – THE OFFICIAL PAGE

Three songs done the first week. We’re finishing each song as we go along which is an unusual but very exiting way of working for us. Every song gets its own treatment. Kevin is definitely the man for the job. This album will be a real hardcore classic rock record with the blues knocking on the door! We’re keeping busy but we will update this blog when we can. All the best. /Europe

First day in the recording studio
in Stockholm. Day 1. First day in the studio is always a little like, ok… What’s happening here, where do I put my drums? where’s the toilet? how does the coffiee machine work? and so on, a bunch of question marks that needs to be straighten out. I guess we’re well on the way to start recording an album here. Photo: The boys talking some strategy.
(later) Just wrapped it up fo today! I think we did pretty much what we set out to do on the first day, got the sounds down and started working on the first track.
Europe
are working at the new album out next year. Thanks to Ian Haugland for the updates. IAN HAUGLAND – THE OFFICIAL PAGE

GAIN/SONY MUSIC TECKNAR SKIVAVTAL MED EUROPE (GAIN/SONY MUSIC SIGNS RECORD DEAL WITH EUROPE)

Europe confirm new album to be produced by Kevin Shirley
EUROPE, Sweden’s biggest rock band, confirm their next studio album, slated for April 2012 release, will be produced by the world’s hottest rock record producer, Kevin Shirley.
No stranger to the crème de la crème of iconic rock records, Shirley has produced albums for Iron Maiden, Joe Bonamassa, Black Country Communion, Black Stone Cherry, Journey and many more.
“We still feel we have one hell of a rock record to make” says Europe’s singer Joey Tempest. “Kevin’s the man for the job. We love his work with Bonamassa, Black Country Communion, and Black Stone Cherry. He’s the real deal. We’re ready to do some serious damage.”

Last week Europe met up with Shirley in Stockholm to discuss the direction of the next album. Based on reactions from the fans and media, Europe’s 2009 album Last Look at Eden proved to be the band’s most important record since The Final Countdown.
“I’ve been a big fan of Europe’s work for years,” says Shirley. ”The band is influential and highly underrated. I can’t wait to make the upcoming album their most explosive to date.”
After summer 2011, Europe will finish the promotion of Last Look at Eden tour, and will start to focus their energy on the next album produced by Shirley.
“We’ve toured for one and a half years” adds Tempest. “It’s time to write and record some new songs and get back on the road again in 2012.”
The new material suggests a more straight forward rock approach evident in Doghouse; a new song Europe performed on their recent UK tour. The song is also featured on Europe’s upcoming Europe: Live at Shepherd’s Bush DVD, released August 2011 on earMUSIC CDs and DVDs.
earMUSIC is also about to release a limited deluxe book with pictures be Denis O’Regan. Live Look At Eden features exclusive live audio and the stunning performance at last year iTunes Festival in London.
Recording for Europe’s new album begins in Stockholm on October 3rd, and will be released in April 2012.

Mascot Records is pleased to announce the July 5th UK release date of “Play Yard Blues” – the long-awaited new studio album from Europe guitarist John Norum.
Hot on the heels of Europe’s critically acclaimed 2009 album “Last Look At Eden”, Play Yard Blues is Norum’s seventh solo release, featuring seven original John Norum tracks and three covers, including Thin Lizzy’s It’s Only Money, Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush’ Ditch Queen and Mountain’s Travellin’ in the Dark.
The new solo album sees Norum take his guitar playing in a new direction. While his trademark sound and distinctive style remains, the new recordings embody a bluesy rock vibe and much more soulful approach.
Both mixed and produced by John Norum, Play Yard Blues was recorded in Norum’s home town of Stockholm alongside Peer Stappe (who play percussion on the album). Norum’s long-standing Europe bandmate Mic Michaeli appears on the album, playing keyboards on several tracks.
